Balg warns personnel

NEWLY appointed Western Highlands administrator Elvis Balg wants public servants to polish up their work, be at their work stations and deliver their services without fear and favour.
“You are all key to the implementation of the Government’s visions,” he said.
“But we have a few public servants who are not performing and they must buck up.”
Balg took office last Wednesday after the Supreme Court stayed the decision of the National Court to appoint him administrator by the National Executive Council (NEC).
Speaking to an assembly of public servants on Monday, Balg said he noticed that only a handful of public servants were in the office when he started work last week.
“Last Thursday and Friday, no one was in the office and this is not a good picture,” Balg said.
“Some came in the morning then left and did not return to work for the day.
“Under my administration, I do not want to see such practice.
“I want to see everyone at their workstations.
“You are paid to serve and sneaking out at any time at your wish will not be tolerated anymore.”
Balg said he did not want to see public servants taking sides in politics which can become a “big mistake”.
“You have no reason to fear anyone as you are employed by the Government to serve,” he said.
“My appointment is from the NEC and whatever legal battles taken by the office of the Governor should become a court matter.
“Public servants should be at their workstations and remain neutral.”
He said the dress codes of public servants needed to be upgraded and punctuality should become a priority.
“I do not want to see people coming in and going out without doing anything and getting paid,” Balg said.
“We have a duty to serve the Government and the people.
“I am prepared to work with the leadership in the province to deliver to people’s expectations and needs.”

This is a timely call by the new Administrator. In most cases, they communicate in their local dialect and a lot of nepotism goes on in there.
