Balob classes delayed

Lae News, Normal

LECTURES at Balob Teachers College in Lae have been deferred until next week.
The college needs time to sort out late registration and orientation of its students.
According to Balob’s principal, Mulung Kumed, lectures were initially planned to commence this week.
Plans changed due to late registration, Mr Kumed said.
“Many of our students on HECAS received their results very late, while the second years did not receive their plane tickets on time,” he said.
As for the enrolments, the school has reduced enrolment compared to previous years.
“This year, we have cut down on our enrolment figures and we are expecting between 600 and 700 students,” Mr Kumed said.
“Last year, we over enrolled a lot of students and as a result, the school faced many problems,” he said.
The problems included over-crowding and the applicants who missed out on spaces took the college to court and Balob was also faced with a high food and water bills.
