THE Lihir Sustainable Development Plan (LSDP) can now implement its education programme in schools on Lihir Island after a ban was lifted recently.
It is understood that a ban was imposed four years ago by the Nimamar local level government on the plan, preventing its education section to introduce programmes and activities in the schools.
The ban was lifted after a week-long visit and discussions with Nimamar LLG and the LSDP by senior New Ireland provincial education officers, including the director and chairman of the provincial education board Andrew Kaiap.
The ban was a result of working relations between the former management of the LSDP and the Nimamar LLG turning sour.
Kaiap said the visit was worth it as discussions with the Nimamar LLG, through its chairman for the social sector, and the LSDP now opened the way for amicable working relations between the two parties.
