Bank assists school

THE Sangurup Elementary School in Wabag now has a renovated classroom and a new water tank for its students, thanks to Bank South Pacific.
The bank’s Wabag branch delivered the project as the first out of 44 projects (valued at more than K1.1m) which it planned to roll out this year.
Sangurup Elementary School chairman John Iamau praised the bank and its staff for their contribution and support, which saw the job completed on time.
Iamau said: “We have a new water tank and this keeps our students within the school ground. They don’t need to go to the creeks to fetch drinking water.
“More importantly, with the renovated classroom, our students are comfortable and enjoy the learning environment provided. For this, we thank the staff for their initiative, time and effort.”
BSP staff took on a four-week challenge, volunteered time over the weekends and a few hours during weekdays to work on the project.
They assisted in fitting V-Crimp on the wall, assembling the PVC pipes and gutters, fitting plywood for corridors and ceilings, cementing and aligning the footpaths, installing of window frames and painting the classroom.
A local building contractor supervised the project and the school’s handymen helped out.
“For a small community, BSP has surprised the leaders and family members as this is a big project and it was well done,” Iamau said.
BSP’s Wabag branch manager Theresa Pilamp, when handing over the project, said it was part of the bank’s culture to give back to the communities in which it operated.
“BSP usually focuses on health, education and sports,” she said.
