BANK South Pacific yesterday reaffirmed their 10-year-long support for the PNG Mens National Snooker Titles by presenting over K15,000 to the Port Moresby Billiards and Snooker Association.
BSP head of marketing and public relations Julie Fraser handed the cheque over to the association, at the Port Moresby Country Club, ahead of preparations for the Sept 6-16 event.
“We are obviously very proud to remain as the major supporter of this event. It is once again a show that BSP is more than just a bank, and that we also want to be a part of community development.
“Health, education and sports are important areas that we try to support, with the aim to see positive results in our community,” Fraser said.
POMBSA president Roger Wilson expressed the association’s gratitude, for the support of the event every year since 2002.
Tournament director Richard Witchurch said that the titles would be held in three locations around Port Moresby, Aviat Club Country Club, and the Car Club.
“Alotau, Kavieng, Lihir and Lae are set to turn up, and we’re expecting around the same numbers as last year, 48 in the B grade and 40 in the A grade.”
The B division comprises players with a handicap of over 25, and the A division, players with a 25 and less handicap.
The eventual winner of the A division will walk away with K2,000 in cash, and the runner up K1,000 with trophies.
B division winner will also receive K1,500 and his runner up will take out K750 with trophies.
Semi-finalists, Quarter-finalists and those who make the final 16 will also receive cash prizes of no more than K500 each.
Fraser wished all players taking part in the event the best on behalf of BSP.
