BANK South Pacific (BSP) Financial Group Limited backed the national Paralympic team with a sponsorship of K7,070, including merchandise, on Friday.
During the presentation, corporate sponsorship manager Amelia Minnopu said BSP recognised and supported sports development in the country.
The sponsorship support covers the team’s meals, training gear, uniforms and quarantine allowances during the event and trip.
BSP has been supporting the Papua New Guinea Paralympic Committee since 2009 and this year’s sponsorship caters for the contingent of four — para-athletes Nelly Leva and Morea Mararos (both javelin throwers), coach Jackie Travertz and chef de mission Susanne Sere.
“We are proud of our continued association with the PNG Paralympic Committee,” Minnopu said.
“Our continued support in sports gives everyone, including athletes with disabilities, an equal opportunity to achieve their sporting aspirations.
“BSP’s support over the years has enabled para-athletes to take part in the 2015 Pacific Games in Port Moresby and the China Open Athletics Championships in Beijing, China, in 2016.
Sere thanked BSP for their support. “On behalf of the committee president and team, I’d like to thank BSP for coming on board to support the team,” she said.
“BSP has been a major supporter of Paralympics in the past and so we are thankful for their continued support.”
Travertz said both Mararos and Leva had been part of PNG para-athletics since 2017 and had competed in a number of competitions but this would be their first appearance in the Paralympics.
