BANK South Pacific (BSP) became Port Moresby Nature Park’s silver sponsor for 2014 after handing over a cheque for K35,000.
The bank’s marketing head, Julie Fraser announced the sponsorship at the park, saying:  “We are supporting the work of Port Moresby Nature Park as part of BSP’s Go Green programme to promote education on the importance of conservation and sustainability of our unique PNG flora and fauna.
“BSP has partnered with Port Moresby Nature Park for several years to celebrate World Environment Day annually in June and will do so again this year with plans underway for June 7 this year.
“With Port Moresby hosting the 2015 Pacific Games, it is a perfect way to introduce our visitors to the country’s rich flora and fauna to the number one tourist destination in Port Moresby.”
The park’s general manager, Michelle McGeorge said the park was planning major developments in the lead-up to the 2015 Pacific Games.
“Among these will be the upgrade of pathways and construction of a new children’s activity playground, plus three new bird exhibits,” she said.
“The bird exhibits will not only be a key attraction during the Pacific Games period but also for all visitors to the park. We will showcase some of PNG’s most colourful species (including bird of paradise) and become facilities for the park’s bird breeding and conservation programmes.”
