FOR the fifth time, the ANZ Banking group is sponsoring the BAHA and ANZ HIV/AIDS education competition schools and teachers throughout the country.
The competition is a community initiative by BAHA to encourage teachers to carry out HIV/AIDS awareness programmes in their respective schools.
Papua New Guinea managing director Vishnu Mohan said the bank was behind the important initiative by BAHA to promote education on HIV/AIDS among school students who were tomorrow’s leaders.
Competition coordinator Joe Bukikun thanked the ANZ  group for its support over the years to the community programme that targets children in schools to protect themselves from HIV.
He said the work of teachers was assessed by the unit of work on HIV/AIDS, evidence of shared information with others, sample of students’ activities and
the credibility of information from the community on what the students learnt and
their change of behaviour.
Bukikun said judging was done by members of the education department’s curriculum development unit who picked 20 winners.
“Surprisingly, 11 of the 20 teachers who won were from schools in East Sepik,” Bukikun said.
He said 76% of the award winners were from rural schools.
The best 20 entries from teachers were awarded K1,000 each.
