IGA Sisira is an example of where plenty of determination and a little direction can take you.

AN employee with Westpac Papua New Guinea, she has played five roles in the bank and has just completed a diploma in banking with five other colleagues.

Sisira, 26, and her colleagues were sponsored by the bank to complete the 18-month course at the Papua New Guinea Institute of Banking and Management.

They graduated with diplomas.

On completing Grade 12 in 2005, Sisira joined the bank in 2007 and is now working as the Team Leader, Proof – National Operations.

She said she was grateful for the opportunity.

“After completing Grade 12, I had never thought I would come this far – even right now it’s unbelievable that I have obtained a diploma.”

Sisira said when she began working, she had achieved so many things that she had thought were impossible.

“I still cannot take in what happened in my life since I joined the bank. I have worked in five different roles. Then I was promoted to my current position in May 2012.”

She put her success on determination to do the right thing and having the right attitude.

“I have made it because the bank believes in me and because of my determination and perseverance. It has helped me to be a very strong person.”
