THE Port Moresby Rotary Club in conjunction with Brian Bell staged their annual Charity Jumbo Tennis tournament last Sunday at the Boroko Tennis Club to raise funds for their school desk programme.
Port Moresby Rotary Club president Ron Seddon said the proceeds from the event would go towards purchasing desks for schools in the National Capital District and Central province.
More than 60 players from supporting businesses and the community took part with each competitor paying a K300 registration to enter the competition.
Jumbo Tennis, as the name says ,is played mostly in doubles (two players on either side of the court) using “jumbo” sized racquets over five to 10 minutes of playing time.
BSP duo of Dean Ani and Raymond Mojica were declared the winners of the tournament after after a gruelling if not fun-filled day on the courts.
Both men received K4000 shopping vouchers from Brian Bell.
The fund-raising event saw 174 matches completed over six hours and the 60 plus players enjoy the sport, rivalry and the refreshments.
