Banks making it hard for people to borrow

Letters

TOUGH requirements are making it difficult for Papua New Guineans to borrow money provided by the Government in banks. The Government has done the right thing, but it failed to come up its own criteria for borrowers.
Bank South Pacific and the National Development Bank have applied their requirements to the money provided by the Government.
This has resulted in businessmen and women losing interest in applying for loans.
Most of the borrowing is done by well-established businesses who meet all the requirements of the banks.
If encouraging Papua New Guineans to be active in the small to medium enterprise (SME) sector is the way to take back PNG, then why are the banks making it so difficult for Papua New Guineans to access funds?
I believe Prime Minister James Marape is not aware of this issue.
Banks should know that it is not their money.
They should work on a different set of requirements that SME operators can access them without much hassle.
Everyone, including businesses, commercial banks and small businessman and women should share the vision of taking back PNG by working in partnership with less restrictions on Government-allocated funds.
