Banz local calls for help as food runs out

National

A LOCAL man from Banz who is providing shelter and food toMombol River flood victims has appealed to businesshouses in Jiwaka to help them with relief supplies.
Junior Aipe said it had been six days since the disaster forced people away from their homes.
“People have lost their houses and gardens,” he said.
“There is nowhere they would go so we have put up a care centre here at Mombol. So far no-one has come to help them.
“I am using my own resources to provide food for them and I cannot look after them any longer.
“There are about 50 of them here.
“They have no clothes. Everything vanished in the flood.
“I call on business houses and individuals to help them out with relief supplies because food rations are the most-immediate need.”
Rebecca Bai, who lost her trade store near the river, said they were distressed and children were being greatly affected.
Provincial disaster coordinator John Kupul said that three
disaster-assessment teams had been sent out to the three most-affected sections of the river on Tuesday.
