THE Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League Foundation has made a proposal to the Sports and Pacific Games Minister’s office to help the Barakau Rugby Football League.

The announcement was made by foundation chief executive officer Brad Tassell and Southern region director Gwaibo Mairi at Barakau village during the launch of the competition on Saturday.

Tassell said he would make a submission to minister Justin Tkatchenko to fund the league to develop the game at that level.

He visited Barakau previously and is aware of the raw talent in the district and village level.

“Change your attitudes and be disciplined as this is the pathway to be successful in your sporting career and life,” Tassell said while presenting league equipment.

Mairi supported Tassell’s bid to see that Barakau benefits from the funding.

He encouraged the association to affiliate to the PNG Rugby Football League to benefit from its programmes.

“You have the talent which can be identified during the Southern Zone championships as a pathway to the national zone event and importantly the Kumuls,” Mairi said.

The season starts next week.

Rugby league is played at Tubusereia, Gabagaba, Kwikila and along the Aroma Coast.
