BOTH the outcomes-based education and the old education system can be made to work, Bava International School principal Boio Daro says.
Daro was speaking at the school’s annual Christmas concert and academic award presentation last Friday in Port Moresby.
She said usually, OBE was a student performance-based system where a child had to be measured while the old traditional system was research-based which required extensive research by teachers to pass knowledge to the students.
Daro said in OBE, even students who did not do well were not necessarily tossed out but remained in the education system and given a second chance.
“In my opinion, both systems can be workable and can be combined,” she said.
“In my school both systems are used and works for my students.”
She said parent-teacher interviews brought about development and parents must be actively involved with teachers in the education of their children as they spent most times at school with their teachers.
She called on parents to lower themselves to the level of their children when speaking with them.
Students showcased what they learned throughout the year in their levels through language and phonics, maths (numbers, spelling and fractions), science (matter and the different stages of water), health and environmental studies and received academic awards for their performances.
Students sang Christmas carols to their parents and got a surprise visit from Santa Claus.
