Barras coach resigns after qualifiers

 CRICKET PNG national head coach Peter Anderson has resigned following the One-Day Cricket World Cup Qualifiers tournament in New Zealand. 

Anderson was appointed coach in February of 2012 for a one year following the departure of former coach Andy Bichel. 

Cricket PNG extended Anderson’s contract in 2013 for one year until this February. 

Anderson was offered an interim six month extension on his contract to oversee the Under-19 Garamuts in the World Cup this month. 

Anderson took the decision to submit his resignation to the Cricket PNG board, effective as at the completion of the World Cup Qualifiers tournament and has secured a development role with Afghanistan cricket.

Cricket PNG general manager Greg Campbell said: “Peter Anderson was dedicated and passionate about the performance of the team and towards the goals of Cricket PNG to develop the players and Cricket PNG as an organisation”.

Cricket PNG chairman extended their gratitude to Anderson for his work with the national side. 

Anderson was based in Australia and travelled to PNG on regular basis to assist and mentor the local coaches. He spent time working on coaching players and mentoring the local coaches to improve their coaching skills.

Anderson thanked Campbell and the board for allowing him to assist in the development of Cricket in PNG.

He also urged the national players “the players to continue to work hard”.
