THE Living Light Foursquare church in Port Moresby with its medical outreach programme visited the city’s rubbish dump, Baruni, recently.
The purpose of the visit was to follow-up on a feeding programme which the church started and to assess the need for medical services with the view of conducting regular outreaches in the future.
Even though the dump was such an unhygenic place to go to, the team managed to set up the place with medical kits and started treating people with the sickness.
Most of the sick were young children with sores.
The team also found out that most of the people at the dump site saw them and were on standby to scavenge through freshly dumped rubbish for re-sellable items such as bottles and aluminium cans, building materials and anything edible.
However, the medical team gave them biscuits, UHT flavoured milk, packets of juice, balloons, lollies and share the word of God with them.
Brand new Bibles were also given to them.
Despite the poor, unhygenic, living conditions, the Team was surprised that there were no serious cases of stomach and digestive disorders.
The people have clean drinking water supplied by Eda Ranu at the kind sponsorship of business houses in Port Moresby.
The next visit of the team will be next month.
