THE Baruni and Gerehu to 9-Mile Road reconstruction in the National Capital District is set for completion.

The road constructed by China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd (CHEC) is funded by the EXIM Bank of China under the Government’s concessional loan of K318 million and is one of the biggest road projects in the National Capital District.

Construction work includes the upgrading of the Baruni backroad into four lanes, which is from Konedobu to Gerehu and a new road from Gerehu to 9-Mile, also four lanes, using Australian standards.

NCD Governor Powes Parkop, along with the contractor, project engineer Cardno and the media visited the site on Thursday.

Parkop commended CHEC for a quality jobdone within time and budget.

CHEC assured Parkop that the new 9km road from Gerehu to 9-Mile is scheduled to be completed on Dec 25 and given to the people of NCD as a Christmas present.

The other part from Konedobu to Baruni and Gerehu, 13km, is expected to be completed by early 2016, with clearing and blasting works still progressing.

Parkop thanked the Government for major investments in the city.

“Investment for the city is for the nation since the city is where vital sea port, airport and head of foreign missions are located,” he said.

“People should look at the benefits of such roads in the long run.
