BASIC emergency awareness is very important, says Martha A’aron, a personal development teacher at Lae Secondary School.
A’aron and fellow physical education teacher arranged for over 20 students of grade 12.3 to visit the Lae St John Ambulance and Fire Service last week. The students had sessions with each organisation, learning about their services, how to respond in various emergency situations and were given basic safety tips.
A’aron said this may have been the first of such excursion trip from by the school to these two organisations.
Fire Service shift supervisor Heric Hariepe said awareness had made their jobs easier, but he urged people to still call them (emergency responders) to ensure everything was safe.
