Basil challenged

Letters

NOT only did the people of Wau Bulolo and Morobe believe and trust MP Sam Basil to fight against corruption, the people of PNG
also put their hope in the young leader to help bring the change
that was very badly needed in the country by fighting corruption when in Parliament and the government.
However, when he joined the O’Neill-led government, many of us thought it was a plan to destroy and replace O’Neill as the Prime Minister from the inside to help minimise the corruption he was aware of and fought against.
That opportunity we think is now.
But if he genuinely said sorry to O’Neill for exposing his evil activities as the PM prior to and during the 2017 national elections then it is indeed a very sad day for the people of this country who had prayed for Basil and trusted him for his words and deeds including moving the previous vote of no-confidence against O’Neill.
That trust in him is now turning to distrust, disappointment and hatred for publicly lying to the people that he disliked O’Neill for everything he outlined as his and the Opposition’s reasons for moving that vote of no-confidence before the 2017 national elections.
It is indeed very hard to believe that some very senior leaders are withdrawing their support for O’Neill in the best interest of the country while Basil bows down to the PM and supports him to continue to be in power.
