BULOLO MP Sam Basil has made a commitment to be personally involved in the efficient processing of displaced settlers in Bulolo within transparent management of the funds committed by the national and provincial governments.
Basil visited the care centre on Wednesday following successful negotiations with the Gabsongkec community of Wampar LLG in Huon Gulf district, who have accepted to see the Wampar LLG station used as a temporary processing centre in the much anticipated repatriation exercise of the displaced settlers.
The displaced settlers thanked Basil for his leadership and tasked him to see that all funds committed by authorities were strictly accounted for to benefit the upcoming processing and repatriation exercises, which they wanted to see happen in the space of a week.
Basil vowed to make weekly visits every Wednesday to be with the displaced settlers to personally assess any developments taking affecting them, as well as make sure the funds committed were used wisely to benefit the affected population.
“I want these funds to be distributed under the accounting system of a company like PNG Forest Product,” he said, adding that he will liaise with acting Chief Secretary Manasupe Zurenuoc and his committee to fast track the whole process.
Basil toured the care centre whose 4,000 residents were now at high risk from a disease outbreak and renewed threats from the locals who are still adamant to see them leave Bulolo district.
The processing centre near Nadzab airport would only be opened after utilities like water, power supplies and shelters are in place.
