Basil should have had escort

Letters

FALL of great leader, in a nasty road accident, is first in the political history of Papua New Guinea.
No politician had ever died in such an accident.
Bulolo MP and Deputy Prime Minister Sam Basil was the second highest officer holder of PNG.
He was one to be guarded, protected, and escorted.
But he was left vulnerable even to drive himself in one vehicle with few people in a long-distant travel in the night.
The deputy prime minister travelling in one car without escort is unimaginable.
Unavailability of supporters and escort vehicle while in a long-distant drive is huge mistake and tragedy in itself.
It is not easy to win an election.
Only the tough and best wins.
However, some lose in the next election.
But maintaining leadership in consecutive term in the district and at the national level and even to become special envoy representing PNG on global meetings and to become the holder of deputy prime minister is tremendous achievement in a political career of any politician.
He focused on his political dream and achieved many of political goals within his district, in different ministries nationally and on international level.
He was a leader of not just Wau Bulolo, but leader of Papua New Guinea.
He was one of leader who had the nation in his heart.
I observed that most members and ministers of parliament do have escorts providing security where they go.
Failure in protecting, and providing escort over the life a deputy prime minister, costs his life.
We must learn a lesson here.
