DEPUTY Opposition Leader Sam Basil has called on Prime Minister Peter O’Neill to tell the people where the country is heading.

He was responding to the front page article in The National last Friday where an economist warned about the weakening value of the kina against major overseas currencies.

The weakening of the kina is expected to last for another eight months.

In a statement yesterday, Basil said O’Neill must “come clean before it’s too late with straight answers to Papua New Guineans on how his government will mitigate the effects of our declining kina against other major currencies”.

“Basic food items are not affordable anymore.

The worse the kina gets, the more people will suffer,” he said.
