Basketball association releases calendar of events

The Port Moresby Basketball Association has released its calendar for this year which will see 467 participants across seven divisions in the regular competitions and five mid-season tournaments.
According to association general manager Patrick Ani, the divisions are Under-10, U12, U14, U16, U18, U23 and premier.
He said the season would run from January to September with a one-month break in May.
Ani said the association would also run five tournaments during the year.
He said corporate basketball would run from February to May with masters to follow from May to August.
The schools, tertiary three-on-three competitions would run between April and November.
The calendar also features the national events that will be staged in September by Basketball Federation Papua New Guinea (BFPNG) which will see junior and senior five-on-five and three-on-three nationals.
There will also be international events from November to December which will see International University Sports Federation three-on-three and others.
The association will run workshops for coaches and technical staff during the season.
Ani said the workshops would be first of their kind and he urged interested coaches and technical officials to attend them as they would help improve the standard of the competition.
