MORE than 400 children across 10 divisions are taking part in the Port Moresby Basketball Association competition at the Taurama Aquatic and Indoor Centre on Sundays, according to an official.
Association chairman Lawrence Lahari said the programme started last month with more than 200 children but had grown in numbers since.
Four schools and five clubs are taking part in the competition. The schools are Koroboro International, Ela Murray International School, Port Moresby Grammar School and Port Moresby International School.
The clubs are Chariots, Saints, Kaugere, Tubusereia and Tamaraws.
The divisions are Under-10 and U12 mixed, U14, U16, and U18 boys and girls.
“Our vision is to ensure we equip our young players with the basic skills of basketball,” Lahari said.
“Men and women play basketball throughout the country. Having junior competitions will see more people learn the code early.”
