Bastille Day was celebrated in Port Moresby on Friday with French ambassador Pascal Maubert coinciding it with an even more significant occasion – 40 years of bilateral relationship with PNG.
Bastille Day commemorates the beginning of the French revolution with the storming of  Bastille on July 14, 1789.
In a small but significant gathering, the French embassy in PNG celebrated the two occasions with local guests.
Maubert said the celebration of the Bastille Day was also the celebration of the 40 years of the two country’s relationship.
“What we are celebrating today is a France national day but it is also an opportunity for us to celebrate the bilateral relationship between the two countries.
We are celebrating the 40 years of our bilateral relationship,” Maubert said.
Maubert thanked the sponsors, the University of PNG students  band, the Buka Bamboo band and Bastille Break Dance Company for providing entertainment.
