Bawa case an internal issue: Baki
The National, Monday February 29th, 2016
Police Commissioner Gari Baki says allegations levelled against the former National Capital District Metropolitan Superintendent Anderson Bawa is an internal matter that is being looked into.
“These are internal processes and my view is that it should not (be) out in the public for us to argue,” Baki said.
“It would be biased for me to say anything about that.
“I don’t want people to think that it has a direct implication on Bawa.
“I saw a lot of publicity in the newspapers, Bawa is also trying to defend himself.
“It is not something for us to go on a battle field in the newspapers. It’s an internal matter that we need to investigate and have clarity.”
Baki said the series of events, including the recent bombing attempt at the current Metropolitan Superintendent Benjamin Turi’s residence, were inter-related.
Meanwhile, Baki said Bawa was supposed to be taking up his post as the Highlands Region Divisional Commander but he didn’t go.
“I read a little bit about him talking about learning that an officer has been appointed in his position and has been transferred.
“As the commissioner, all I have to say is Bawa did not take the liberty to move as I asked him to do so.
“I can’t sit down and wait for somebody. When I give an order, I expect my officers to comply with it.
“He never moved when we posted him to the Highlands until the promotion board sat towards the end of the year.”
Baki said deputy commander Jimmy Onopia was currently in the post.
