Bawa deserves respect for good contribution

I SHARE my sympathy with former National Capital District Metro Supt Commander Andy Bawa for being a victim of a political witch hunt which eventually lead to his misfortune where he is now unattached while another officer has taken up his post.

Bawa’s case here is clearly connected to politics because during his tenure as the metropolitan superintendent for NCD he may have allowed officers to prosecute politicians in the course of executing his duty which is now back firing on him.

It is my strongest opinion also that his successor, Benjamin Turi,  is also trying to create a media propaganda out of this situation rather than treating it as an internal police matter yet to be investigated and cleared by the courts.

A front page headline earlier in The National describing Bawa as wanted by police is unwarranted, especially to an officer who has dedicated his time and effort in combating crime in the capital city and for tackling corruption in the force during his tenure.

I therefore appeal to Police Commissioner Gari Baki to allow Bawa to resume his post in the Highlands rather than taking it too personally and ignoring all the good contribution Bawa has made to the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary during his time as the Metropolitan Superintendent for NCD.
