Bawa ready to defend integrity
The National, Tuesday March 1st, 2016
Former NCD Metropolitan Superintendant Anderson Bawa, the man wanted by police for questioning over alleged misconduct in office, says he is prepared to defend his integrity as a police officer.
Bawa spoke to The National yesterday after his story ran last week that he, together with others who served under his command, were wanted by NCD police for questioning.
It is understood Bawa fronted up at the police headquarters in Konedobu yesterday and reported to crimes director Moses Ibsagi.
Attempts to reach Ibsagi for comments were unsuccessful but NCD Met Supt Benjamin Turi confirmed Bawa was at the police headquarters. “He went to the headquarters and reported to director CID,” Turi said. He could not comment further.
Police Commissioner Gari Baki said it was an internal matter.
A disappointed Bawa also said he did not abandon his duty as the Deputy Commander – Eastern End, based in Western Highlands.
“The failure is with headquarters for not issuing tickets for my family to go to the Highlands after the hand-over ceremony last year. I waited for three months before I wrote a letter to the commissioner to take leave,” he said.
“I am a police officer. I have the heart to go anywhere to serve the country,” Bawa said. “With all the allegations levelled against me, I have cleared myself of all that. But I am prepared to defend my name and integrity.”
