A senior lawyer with the Public Prosecutor’s office in Kokopo has called on those in law enforcement agencies in East New Britain to be prompt in assisting people who seek justice.

During the opening of the legal year last week Lukara Rangan told those in the judiciary, police, correctional services and others at the frontline of the administration of law and order to be mindful of the common phrase, justice delayed is justice denied

“I have observed this phrase “Come back tomorrow” being frequently used by officers on people who approach us for help in seeking justice,” he said.

Rangan said it was the responsibility of all officers to know the role of respective government agencies in order to refer people to the relevant agency.

“Police officers must know the roles of the offices of the Public Prosecutor and Public Solicitor, National and district courts so when people approach you for assistance, you can point them out to the appropriate agency to assist with their queries.”
