Be honest with job: Turi

NATIONAL Capital District Met Supt Benjamin Turi is calling on officers at the Department of Lands and Physical Planning and the National Housing Corporation to issue titles for land and property honestly.
He made the call yesterday following a number of complaints relating to land grabbing and property ownership.
“Half of the complaints every day are on police eviction of land and houses,” Turi said.
Police on average carry out four evictions a day relating to illegal titles and occupancy.
“The Lands Department and Housing Corporation have to do an honest job. A lot of people come in here and say that the Lands Department and Housing are at fault. Something is not right somewhere,” he told The National.
“I call on the authorities to be honest with their job.”
He also warned police officers to carry out eviction orders from the commander and himself.
“No policemen will evict or remove occupants without directive from the commander or myself,” Turi said.
He said any eviction order must show proof of signature from the court house, the commander and himself to make the eviction legal as officers were taking matters personally.
