ARCH rivals Bears and the United Sisters tussle in the Port Moresby women’s softball grand final tomorrow at the Bisini Softball Diamonds.

Both teams made the grand final last year, with United Sisters taking out the title.

However, the Bears have fought their way back to the top to face the defending champions.

The game should be very competitive as Bears proved in their major semi-final against Wantoks that they are the team to be reckoned with.

“Both teams have a variety of very good batters,” association president Jenny Paak said.

“Most players in the teams were part of the POM women’s squad during the national championships in Kavieng, so I believe it should be a very good battle.

“The team batting must be the team with minimum errors and good base running.

“We wish all the teams the best of luck in the grand final and may the best team win,” Paak said.

Paak said Chebu and United Sisters B grade final would feature very young talent in the competition, with most of the players being first timers playing among a sprinkling of experienced players.

“The association takes a keen interest in such players as the correct application of their skills gives them a spot in the A grade next season,” Paak said.

The POMWSA season comes to an end after this weekend but competition resumes with the Pacific MMI Corporate Slow Pitch Competition in June followed by the Annual General Meeting in July.
