BEARS are poised to reclaim the major crown in the 2010-11 Port Moresby women’s softball grand final.
Make no mistake they have prepared well this season. They have won most of their matches if that is proof enough and winning the premiership should be an icing on the cake.
However this weekend, players in the A grade will go into recess after completing their matches last weekend while the rest of the games in the U16 and B grades will be held tomorrow at the Bisini softball diamonds.
Association publicity officer Francis Dakeni said yesterday that the matches were cancelled due rain in the past weeks and had to be rescheduled for this weekend.
In A grade, Bears have already clinched the minor premiership and are comfortably sitting with 42 points followed by Gazelle 36, Stingerz 31, United Sisters 28, Admiralty Mariners 25, Wantoks 25, Chebu 18 and Dolphins 13.
While Bears, Gazelle, and Stingerz have cemented their positions in the top four for the finals play-offs, Wantoks have an outstanding game against Stingerz tomorrow.
They have a slim chance of making it into the top four but unless they win by a big margin, they will not be able to make through to the finals because Stingerz are leading on percentage points.
In the lower grades: U16 – Stingerz  are  leading with 33 points, Bears 22, Gazelle 22, United Sisters 21, Mariners 18, Wantoks 16, Chebu 15 and Dolphins eight.
Bears are ahead in the B grade with 38 followed by Mariners on 35 points, Tikina 34, United Sisters 31, Stingerz 30, Brown Eagles 25, Chebu 23, Gazelle 22, Wantoks 20 and Dolphins four.
The association is appealing to all players competing in the A grade for a clean-a-thon on Saturday.
The clean-up will start at 6am and will be followed by a meeting for all selected players.
