POLICE in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville (AROB) have urged beche-de-mer buyers in the region not to deal with suspicious sellers.
AROB’s assistant commissioner of police Francis Tokura made the call on Thursday following the theft of beach-de-mer by armed men at Fead Islands .
Armed men in a dinghy went to the island and robbed the sellers of thousands of kina worth of beche-de-mer.
“Although the beche-de-mer season is nearly over, I urge buyers not to buy the product from suspicious people,” Tokura said.
“We are still investigating the armed robbery o in one of the atolls.
“We have made some searches on the mainland but we did not find anything, probably because the thieves had sold it immediately on arriving on the mainland.
“They usually sell to overseas buyers.”
