THE Port Moresby Schoolboys Rugby League is calling on senior students to take up refereeing.

PMSBRL president Ben Kaupa said because of the shortage of referees in the competition he called on grades 10-12 students to take up the responsibility.

Kaupa said secondary schools should nominate senior students to become referees.

He will conduct a course or clinics to train and improve understanding and knowledge of the game for those who answer the call .

The senior Port Moresby referee will approach the city league referee’s association and the Digicel Cup to facilitate the course or clinic.

Kaupa said all students would be certified to control games and he would recommend they be touch judges during the local league. He said the city league had aging referees who could be replaced by the students.

The season for Moresby South and West kicked off on Saturday at their respective venues and this week Moresby North would start.

Kaupa said only students were qualified to play in the competition as their date of birth and identity could be verified by schools. He can be contacted on 72659940.
