bemobile Cup in recess

WEEK two of the bemobile Cup playoffs takes a backseat to the Prime Minister’s XIII clash this Sunday. The semi-professional competition resumes on Oct 3.
Minor premiers Mendi Muruks enjoy their second straight week off while Guria, with five players in the squad, will  hope they pull through injury-free.
Guria could potentially suffer from the usual rep season blues with big guns Rodney Pora, George Moni, Sigfred Gande and Dion Aiye as expected starters in the PNG Prime Minister’s XIII.
Guria lock Pidi Togap could also earn a spot off the bench over the weekend giving Guria the most number of players from a single franchise.
Muruks have surprisingly been overlooked in the representative stakes with only utility Andrew Sam included in the PM’s XIII squad.
Skipper Joseph Omae (knee) and forward Norbert Kembo missed out with selectors opting for fitness and experience respectively.
Mioks have the luxury of none of their 17 involved in the PM’s XIII although a good case could have been made for backrower David Loko who impressed all season.
Ball-playing lock Glen Nami and veteran Tony Dai are the Lahanis in the PM’s side. Former Lahanis captain Nigel Hukula and tough-as-nails prop John Milba would not have looked out of place in the representative squad but Lahanis management will be satisfied with a fit and primed duo for the Mioks clash in Lae next week.
The bemobile Cup fixtures for next week will see Muruks and Guria play the preliminary final in Port Moresby while Mioks and Lahanis clash in Lae in a do-or-die affair.
