A WARD chairman in the Lae Urban LLG is supporting Lae MP John Rosso’s idea for the Lae City Council to operate as a business.
Ward 2 chairman Thompson Benguma said the council is riddled with people who cannot perform tasks within the positions they occupied.
He said the MP is right in saying that the council has many avenues to generate revenue but it is doing little or nothing at all and waited only for handouts to come either from the national or the provincial government. “If the council is to be managed as a business entity, these sort of practices within the organisation can be polished and the smooth
running of the council will be evident”.
Benguma said the health and engineering divisions are the money-making avenues while the corporate division is there to prudently manage the funds.
He further suggested for the council to tap into managing human waste created in the city.
