The Momase leg of the PNGFA sanction tournament attracted 46 team that will battle out for the men’s and the women’s champion’s title come Sunday.
In Pool E of the men’s division, tournament debutants Bukawa and Biangai faced off in the second last game of the day.
The Labuta boys, with midfielders Manu Mark and Jonah Marcus controlling traffic, scored the opener in the 11th minute.
Under team manager Nicholas Biram, Bukawa dominated the second half. Biangai’s persistence to stay in contest saw them scoring an equaliser, with the scores remaining 1-1 until fulltime.
“I didn’t expect my team to play such a high level of football,” Biram said. “We ran out of steam in the dying stages, allowing them to equalise. But it was our first game.”
