THE Kumul Petroleum National Soccer League Northern Conference over the weekend saw Besta PNG United beat the Tusbab Stallions 4-1 to record their second win of the season.
In the first match of the double header at the Sir Ignatius Kilage Stadium, Morobe United continued their form with a 4-2 win over Markham.
Besta and the Stallions, both featuring a crop of young players, each enjoyed a fair share of possession until the 17 minute when United’s Jonathan Allen scored the first of his two goals.
Tusbab — under the captaincy of Max Sengum — had several opportunities to score inside United’s territory, however, they could not convert their chances.
As the match continued, Aben Pukue saw an opening to push the ball past Tusbab goalkeeper Graham Berigami.
After the break, the Papua New Guinea Football Association Academy players wasted no time in extending their lead to 3-0.
The Stallions, keen to break United’s dominance, kept applying pressure through Freeman Giwi, Jason Wadunah, Sengum, Ricky Wadunah and Barthy Kerobin.
United’s dominance was momentarily stalled when referee Amos Anio awarded Tusbab a penalty inside the box.
Substitute Francis Patrick made no mistake, pulling a goal back for the Stallions.
With four minutes remaining, substitute Joshua Kaimala — who played an outstanding game against Lahi in round two — beat Berigami to seal the match for United.
Northern Conference results: Morobe United 4 Markham 2, Besta PNG United 4 Tusbab Stallions 1.
