BESTA PNG United came back strongly in the second half to beat Gigira Laitepo Central Coast 3-1 in the Telikom National Soccer League match at the Sir Ignatius Kilage Stadium in Lae on Saturday.
The score sheets were opened by a goal from prominent striker Reginald Davani who caught Besta goalkeeper Benjamin Wilbert by surprise in a fast U-turn move in the opening quarter.
That goal made the visitors look dangerous.
However Besta kept their cool to contain the attacks from the visitors.
Besta United’s Emmanuel Simon and Max Sengum were outstanding in the centre dictating play for their strikers Dapalau Awelel and Manual Airem’s putting on persistent attacks up front until the break.
Besta United came back in the second half, revived after a pep talk from coach Max Foster on the sidelines.
Port Moresby-based referee Hillary Ani penalised Central Coast’s midfielder Nathaniel Lepani for protesting against a goal he awarded to Besta United’s Sengum.
With fatigue creeping into Central Coast, Besta United took advantage with some classy passage of play that resulted in striker Jamal Seeto setting up Vanya Malagian to score their second goal.
With a minute remaining Seeto, who was involved in setting up a goal, added another to seal the match 3-1.
