Betel nut ban pointless

Letters

THE betel nut ban and awareness programme by NCDC and the deployment of city rangers to police them are a total waste of time.
The city rangers are only spying on passengers at bus stops and police officers are chasing away street vendors if they are criminals but no one is looking at the police officers’ family members selling betel nut at the barracks.
The ban is to make the city clean for the Apec meetings this year, but I NCDC is not serious about keeping the city clean.
If it is serious about the betel nut ban, then there should be tighter security at Hiritano Highway, Magi Highway and along the coastline towards Hanuabada. The authorities should also stop giving betel nut passes to PMVs on route 600 that supply betel nut to Port Moresby.
If we can’t do this then forget the ban.
