Bethalia Edwards has won for Papua New Guinea the East Asia and Oceania regional Toyota Dream Car art award.
For her prize, she will travel to Japan in September for the world contest in the 0-15 age category.
The PNG contest was held by Ela Motors at the Waigani and Badili showrooms last year, with students from Port Moresby primary schools like Wardstrip, Boreboa, Boroko, Emmanuel Lutheran, St Therese, Koki and Kaugere, taking part.
More than 400 entries were received by Ela Motors from around the country between Nov 2017 and Feb 2018.
Judging was in February this year at the Ela Motors head office in Badili where three winners were picked.
Edwards’ artwork was sent to Japan for international judging and she won the East Asia and Oceania award in her age group.
She entered the contest last year as a student of St Therese Primary School. She is currently a grade 9 student at Marianville Secondary.
The Toyota Dream Car contest has been conducted by Ela Motors since 2004 as part of Toyota’s ongoing social contribution initiative.
It is a global competition which invites children to share ideas about the future of mobility by drawing their dream cars.
There were more than 800,000 entries from about 80 countries in 2015, which puts into perceptive Edwards’ win.
