Better security guards needed

Letters

The Security Industries Authority should now be in a better position to advise all private security firms to employ young and energetic people to protect lives and properties.
Many private security companies are employing guards either too old or too incapable of protecting the property and people they are supposed to be guarding.
Some firms employ guards who are between 40 and 50 years old. This is not quite safe because they just don’t have the ability to defend anyone, let alone themselves. They can’t stop robberies from happening.
The Security Industries Authority should review all security firms’ operational plans, their guards and licence as some security firms are operating illegally in the country.
In addition, some firms are paying their guards below the minimum wage and at times guards are not paid for up to a month.
Many security guards are operating without the proper permit.
