West Sepik Governor Tony Wouwou says that the Bewani Oil Palm project will export its first shipment of crude oil next month.
“And we will invite the Prime Minister Peter O’Neill to launch the first export. After all he had launched the project in 2012 and planted the first oil palm tree,” he said yesterday.
“This is also the biggest oil palm project in PNG.”
Wouwou said theb provincial government is keen to help the national Government acquire land for the new international wharf at Vanimo, which would cater for big projects like oil palms and the Freida Gold mine.
Wouwou said that the oil palm project covers 13,000 hectares with almost two million palm trees in Imbio, Bewani and Sumomini.
Meanwhile, Wouwou said that they are also looking forward to hosting the international long board surfing competition in October at Lido village.
“We will have to work with PNG Power Ltd and Water PNG to increase the capacity of water and electricity services in Vanimo,” he said.
