Bid for Central Sepik gets backing

PRIME Minister Peter O’Neill has assured the people of Central Sepik that the government would consider the possibility of declaring it as a new province.
O’Neill said this when responding to a question from Maprik MP Gabriel Kapris on his people’s wish to have a new province.
Kapris said the Central Sepik region, which included Maprik, Wosera-Gawi, Ambunti-Dreikikir, Nuku, Lumi and West Yangoru districts, was less developed.
“These districts have been marginalised and looked down on by the Somare regime.”
In doing so, many had been attacked and robbed along the Sepik Highway.
