A man from Enga who is charged with stealing K3700 was denied bail by the Bomana Committal Court after the prosecution claimed he would interfere with witnesses.
Magistrate Cosmas Bidar denied an appeal for bail by Luther Enoch, 35, after a police prosecutor argued that the defendant would interfere with the witnesses in the matter.
The defendant told the court he and the complainant lived at Badili in the National Capital District.
The court was told that on April 26, Enoch,  went into the complainant’s house and allegedly stole K3700 hidden in a bag. The accused then went into hiding until May 31 when the  complainant spotted him at Koki and was apprehended by police.
During an interrogation, Enoch claimed that the complainant’s wife hid the money from her husband, fearing he might use all the money to buy beer.
A police brief said Enoch knew the money was there from an instalment of K4000 paid by a customer to purchase the complainant’s block of land.
The prosecutor told the court that he was of the view that Enoch should not be trusted.
Bidar adjourned the case to August 12 for mention.
