Biggest boost ever for Madang

 MADANG Rugby League received its single largest sponsorship in a long time from patron and police Minister Nixon Duban last Saturday.

The Madang Open MP delivered a cheque of K30,000 to MRL president Paul Poka and pledged another K60,000 to revive the league that has been in the doldrums for some time.

Duban’s donation and pledge brings his overall support for the MRL to K110,000, which includes K20,00 he donated last year.

While making the donation, the patron announced that the K60,000 would go towards preparing for an annual national super Nnnes competition, MRL being the host in Madang. 

The K60,000 comprised of K50,000 from the Madang district funds and K10,000 was from the MP’s personal pledge.

Duban appealed to PNGRFL director for Northern Zone Russ Kaupa, who was present at the ceremony, to sanction the super nines competition that would see teams from around the country participate.

MS Tsang Trading and Tamane Guesthouse donated cheques of K1500 each while pledges were made by R & Sons Construction Ltd (K5000), Peter Dumba (K2000), Peter Andoi (K1500) and Travel Air (K1000).
