THREE-year-old Bindisa Powaseu might look healthy but she has a disease called rare renal tubular acidosis hypokaemia, which she was born with.
The disease causes her to urinate more than a normal human body rate, resulting in her body becoming weak and leaving her prone to colds and malaria.
Powaseu and her parents travelled from Manus to Port Moresby in 2009, leaving behind her two older siblings to seek treatment at the Port Moresby General Hospital and have been living there since.
Powaseu’s doctors prescribed a mixture called Sholl’s solution which is very expensive and not provided by public hospitals.
Her father Bradley said the solution was made from sodium citrate and citric acid, which they bought and gave to the hospital pharmacist to prepare for her.
Powaseu has been on Sholl’s solution since 2009.
However, her medication has run out.
Her father said the two chemicals would cost around K3,000 but this time they could not afford it.
He said their daughter was not allowed to go home until they bought the medication.
Those willing to assist financially can deposit into the account number 1001632494 (Bradley Powaseu) at BSP branch town or contact him on 73301320.
