INFLATED numbers in the electoral roll and other issues can be addressed by the introduction of the bio-metric system during elections.
Provincial election manager David Wakias commented on the electronic system as a solution to wide-spread problems when he declared incumbent Imbonggu MP Francis Awesa on Monday.
Wakias said that there were so many issues, such as the disputes of ballot boxes as in the Imbonggu electorate and the alleged hijacking of boxes that resulted in numerous other disputes encountered during counting
The electronic system could address some of those issues and called on the government to plan ahead for the next election.Awesa said many issues were created by candidates.
Inflating numbers was one of them.
“This is an urgent need, which the government needs to address as the people need to elect good leaders and not people entering parliament through foul play and unacceptable processes,” he claimed.
“We do not need corrupt leaders. We cannot allow this. There is a need for the introduction of the bio-metric system so that individuals can be given the choice to select leaders.”
Awesa thanked the provincial election steering committee led by Dr Bravy Koensong and the security forces.
He donated K20,000 to the election officials, security forces and others involved in the election as a token of appreciation.De Kewano, member elect for Mendi, and re-elected member for Kagua-Erave James Lagea also donated K20,000 to the officials in appreciation of their work.
