East Sepik Governor Allan Bird has urged University of Papua New Guinea to offer programmes to address current challenges the country is facing.
“We need to recognise a new era,” Bird said during the university’s 63rd graduation on Friday
“I congratulate UPNG for graduating the first batch of Bachelors in Sustainable Development.
“I am advised of your theme for the graduation which is ‘Science and responsible sustainable development’.
“This theme is particularly appropriate, given the times we live in this world.”
Bird said many countries had made significant strides towards trying to improve the world, particularly in the issues of climate change.
“I’m pleased that this year there were 14 pioneering students in skills that are of importance to the world,” Bird said.
“I think it’s also appropriate that it’s time for all institutions of learning to start to evaluate what is that they are offering in this changing world, and how it is they can contribute to manpower.”
