THE outgoing Bishop of Bougainville has urged Catholics to continue work on development projects started by early missionaries.
“It has been 100 years of mission work which will now be left to the local church of Bougainville to continue,” Bishop Henk Kronenberg said.
“Early missionaries did their part in bringing civilization to this part of the world and it is now up to the locals to continue the work,” he said.
The new Bishop for Bougainville, Bishop Bernard Unabali, will be installed on March 19.
Bishop Kronenberg retired after serving Bougainville for 45 years, thirty-five of them as a Marist priest and the last 10 as Bishop for Bougainville diocese.
